Bring on a smile today
Every Happy Threads doll, flower and rattle is crocheted by hand by a woman working from her home or from one of our five centres in Sindh. She is paid for every piece she makes, and what you pay for it is what keeps her working.
How it started
His Holiness Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin received an unexpected gift on a visit to Burhanpur, India: a packet of papad, prepared by a mother whose family lived on about 100 rupees a day. He asked the women of his own family to find a way to help women like her earn a fair living from skills they already had. That became the SuperMoms4U foundation, and Happy Threads Pakistan grew out of it.
Crochet was the obvious craft. It is part of Dawoodi Bohra home life, it needs nothing more than a hook and thread, and it can be done between school runs and meals.
What we do
- We design the products, buy the thread, and train artisans to a standard.
- We give each artisan regular, paid work through job orders, so income is steady rather than one-off.
- We sell what they make: here, at exhibitions, through partner shops, and to corporate and bulk buyers.
Where we are today
- Over 200 artisans working with us
- Five centres across Sindh
- Every piece made by hand, from cotton thread
